Chapter Twenty-Seven
LASH SAT IN the passenger seat staring out the window of the black Range Rover Sentinel as it cruised along the coast towards Marblehead. Abby sat in the back, as befitting her status as the 'asset', pouting over his treatment of her.
Her strutting-her-stuff stunt for Dr. fucking Carver hadn't produced the desired reaction she'd wanted. Lash had zipped down the stairs to await her arrival by the stylish armored vehicle at the main entrance. Her jaw had nearly dropped when she saw him standing there, calm, cool and collected.
Abby had thought herself rather clever with her sassy exit. But evidently, Lash had outwitted her.
Standing by the vehicle in his black suit and stylish overcoat, however, was a very sexy affair. The nights were getting colder and seeing his tall muscular body clad in the long, finely made cashmere coat had set her heart to pitter-pattering.
But all that had changed the second she'd been within hearing distance. Not mincing words, he'd called out for her to move her ass faster, and made no further comment after that.
After slamming the door behind her, he'd stalked around the perimeter of the vehicle, inspecting it like some sort of bomb may have been hidden under it - as if. He then slapped the hood of the Rover before instructing the driver to 'haul ass' as he entered the vehicle and sat down in the front passenger seat.
And that's when Abby realized she was being driven home by a convoy of black armored vehicles...a convoy for heaven's sake!
He was taking his protection of her way too far.
Hence, her pouting in the back seat.
As they entered the grounds of her aunt's coastal estate, Abby spotted a pair of armed vamps on either side of the gate. Lash nodded to his vamps as they passed by.
The gates closed, as if to say 'Welcome home, prisoner Woodville' and inside the Sentinel Abby stewed.
Shifting over to check out her aunt's house for further acts of ludicrousness, she spotted three vamps on the roof, no doubt carrying enough fire power to bring down a Black Hawk helicopter.
He was unbelievable. What the hell was he thinking? That they were in Beirut rather than 16 miles outside of Boston?
Swallowing down her anger, she sat back, sinking into the plush interior. She had to hand to it the modern day civilian tank - it was most chic and comfortable...bullet proof even. Loaded with all the modern needs to run a blue chip conglomerate or high stakes nefarious business.
Abby wondered which one Lash headed, probably the latter, if Jake's outlandish theories were to be believed.
When the vehicle pulled up to the beach house, Abby attempted to let herself out only to find it impossible. Not surprising considering the circumstances.
And finally, Lash spoke. But not to her.
"Hab, would you escort Dr. Woodville to her door?"
Wow.
"If you simply unlock this tank masquerading as a classic British motor I can walk there myself," she complained, rattling the handle.
Silence. Until Hab appeared as instructed.
"You outrageous bastard," she snapped.
